Government honours South actors recommended by Mohan

Chennai: Popular Tamil film and TV actor Mohan Raman, also a well known philatelist, was pleasantly surprised when the government honoured actors he had recommended from the south through 50 stamps that were released at the 60th National Film Awards. President Pranab Mukherjee released the stamps Friday commemorating 50 iconic film personalities who brought changes to Indian cinema. "I was approached by a member of the film chamber few months back requesting me to suggest names of actors from south to be honoured through postal stamps. Mumbai: Filmmaker Yash Chopra, Rajesh Khanna, legendary playback singer Asha Bhosale are among those Bollywood legends, who will be honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Academy Awards here on April 30. Bhosale will be presented with the Phalke Ratna Award for her contribution in the field of music for five decades. Mumbai: That Rajesh Khanna is being honoured with a Padma Bhushan is a good thing. That he is being honoured after his death is not such a good thing. Why wait for the legends to die before honouring them? Why honour him with a Padma award a good 35 years after his hey days are over? Bollywood actor Sridevi bags the Padma award

Apart from our own Ramanaidu, three Hindi film biggies have won the Padma awards. The list includes veteran actress Sharmila Tagore, yesteryear's romantic icon late Rajesh Khanna and comedy king late Jaspal Bhatti. While evergreen actress Sridevi, filmmaker Ramesh Sippy and actor Nana Patekar are among the 108 personalities to win the Padma Sri award. Talking in a media interview about her win, 'Kashmir Ki Kali' famed actress Sharmila Tagore stated that it's a wonderful recognition and she is feeling very happy about it. Akshay Kumar hails Padma award for Rajesh Khanna

Mumbai: Actor Akshay Kumar is delighted that his father-in-law, the late actor Rajesh Khanna, has been posthumously honoured with the Padma Bhushan, India's third highest civilian honour. "I am really very happy. I am obliged that the government has recognised my father-in-law's work. I am extremely happy," said Akshay, who is married to Rajesh Khanna's elder daughter Twinkle. The awards were announced Friday. Rajesh Khanna, fondly known as Kaka, began his career with 'Aakhri Khat' in 1966. In a career spanning five decades, he became a superstar like no other with hits like 'Aradhana', 'Do Raaste', 'Safar' and 'Anand'. He passed away in July 2012 following prolonged illness. He was 69.

New Delhi: Deceased actor Rajesh Khanna and former Censor Board chief Sharmila Tagore are likely to be awarded the Padma Bhushan, sources said on Friday. Riyasat: No takers for Rajesh Khanna's last film

Mumbai: Legendary actor Rajesh Khanna's last film 'Riyasat' was supposed to hit the screens Friday, a day before the 70th birth anniversary of the late star.
