BJP stages protest over water scarcity in Delhi

New Delhi: Delhi BJP on Friday took to streets to protest against scarcity of water in various parts of the city during summer and blamed poor water management by Congress government for the situation. BJP activists led by Delhi unit chief Vijay Goel held a demonstration near ITO with police using water cannons and lathicharge to disperse them. "The crisis is so acute and the common people are in such a desperate situation that Delhi could face severe water riots in days to come as it has happened earlier also," Goel said addressing BJP workers. New Delhi: CAG report commands respect and cannot be brushed aside but it cannot be the final word on an issue, the Supreme Court said on Thursday while noting that the auditor's findings cannot be gospel truth as it is subject to scrutiny by Parliament. Have proof of corruption in farm debt waiver scheme: Anna

Nagpur: Anti-corruption activist Anna Hazare on Sunday claimed to have sufficient proofs of alleged irregularities committed in the farmers's loan waiver scheme of the Centre which was brought out by CAG report recently. 'No misappropriation of funds in farm debt waiver scheme'

New Delhi: Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar on Wednesday said there was no "misappropriation" of funds under the Rs 52,000-crore farm debt waiver scheme and sought a more comprehensive audit by CAG to get a better picture. Stating that the sample size taken for auditing was "too small", Pawar said audit of "significant" number of accounts should be done by Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG). "Government of India has taken the decision and money has been sent to banks. Accounts and beneficiary list has been selected by banks under the supervision of RBI and NABARD. PM assures action if irregularities are found in farm loan waiver

New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday assured that action will be taken if irregularities are found in the farm loan waiver scheme. The Prime Minister's statement in the Rajya Sabha came after loud protests by the Opposition in the House. The Lok Sabha, too, witnessed a demand from the Opposition to discuss the CAG report on farm loan waiver scheme. Uproar in LS over CAG report on farm loan waiver scheme

New Delhi: The Lok Sabha was adjourned on Wednesday after uproar over alleged scam in farm loan waiver scheme. The CAG report which was tabled in Parliament on Tuesday had criticised the scheme's implementation, citing lapses in 22 per cent of the cases. The loan waiver scheme was brought by the UPA government in its first term (2004-09). The Comptroller and Auditor General has said there were serious lapses and malpractices in implementing the government's Rs 52,000 crore ($9.5 billion) farm loan waiver scheme in 2008. In a report tabled in parliament on Tuesday on "Implementation of Agricultural Debt Waiver and Debt Relief Scheme, 2008", the CAG said there were irregularities in at least one in five cases.

Rs 25,628 cr of UP budget unutilised, says CAG report

Lucknow: The CAG report for the year ending March 31, 2012 tabled in the UP Assembly on Tuesday shows that Rs 25,628 crore of 34 departments remained unutilised. According to the report, of the 34 departments wherein the budget amount could not be fully utilised included agriculture, urban development, women and child welfare, education, social welfare, irrigation and planning. The unutilised amount in each of these departments stood at over Rs 500 crores, the report said. Indicating at the flaws in the budgetary provisions, the report also states that in eight departments almost Rs 10 thousand crores have remained unutilised in the past five years which points out that the assessment was wide off the mark. Critical shortage of doctors in defence hospitals: CAG

New Delhi: The medical arm of the defence services on Friday came in for criticism by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) over "critical shortage" of medical officers which is likely to impact patient care. "There was an overall shortage of 12 per cent medical officers in the hospitals under the Director General Armed Forces Medical Services...Even among the Command and Specialist hospitals, the posted strength varied from minus 25 per cent in Udhampur to plus 93 per cent in R and R Hospital in Delhi," the report said. The Comptroller and Auditor General's report on medical establishments in defence services was tabled in Parliament on Friday.
