Mumbai's 26/11 DGP back at the helm

Mumbai: Maharashtra's Acting Director General of Police Anami Narayan Roy will take over as full fledged DGP, the state government announced on Friday, a year after he was removed from the post. Roy, who had superseded several other officers, was removed from the state's top police post by the Bombay High Court that had criticised the state government for "non-application of mind" in his appointment. Roy - who was first appointed to the coveted post in February 2008 before his removal last year - was not available for comment, as he had proceeded on short leave after the announcement in the morning. Govt not to appeal against Maharashtra DGP's sacking

Mumbai: The Maharashtra government has decided not to appeal against the Bombay high court's decision to remove DGP AN Roy. The Bombay High Court on February 5, 2009 had set aside the appointment of senior IPS officer Roy as Maharashtra DGP, terming it as contrary to law. The court also has asked the state government to appoint a new DGP in four weeks. "If the government has a sense of propriety, it should dismiss Roy withing 24 hours," Munde told PTI. Bombay HC orders removal of Maharashtra DGP

Mumbai: In a major embarrassment for the state government, the Bombay High Court on Thursday ordered the removal of Maharashtra Director General of Police (DGP) AN Roy and said a police chief must be appointed within four weeks. A division bench consisting of Chief Justice Swatanter Kumar and Justice A S Bobde also came down heavily on the government over Roy's appointment. The judges observed that there should be 'objectivity and transparency' to the appointments in such important posts and ordered Roy's removal. Mumbai train blasts 'almost' solved

Mumbai: Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister and Mumbai’s police commissioner on Wednesday said the investigation into the July 11 serial blasts in local trains is almost over. The investigations were at a "concrete stage" and the perpetrators of the crime would be bought to book soon, said Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil, who is in charge of the Home Ministry.
