PM made no money from coal block allocation: Congress

The party also defended Prime Minister Manmohan Singh saying he made no money through the allocation of coal blocks. Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said, "What does the CAG report say? Does the CAG say that the government and the Prime Minister have taken money through coal block allocation. Did they make money? It is the PM who took up this matter and said that there be a screening committee for block allocation with the Centre and State as part of the committee."

The Congress also blamed the BJP in coalgate, targeting party president Nitin Gadkari. "Ajay Sancheti, BJP MP and close aide and business partner of Nitin Gadkari has been given a coal block in single bidding while no allocations are done in single bidding. This led to losses in crores. Ask the BJP how this was allocated in single bidding," Digvijaya Singh said.

He added that the CAG's claim of private parties benefiting was also wrong.
